Trump's "Dear Leader" Cabinet Meeting |
Of course, as helpful as the Comey testimony might be for Mueller, somewhat predictably, Trump has continued to be his own worst enemy as he demonstrates the validity of Comey’s statement. While Comey had a single, impressive example of Trump inappropriately demanding a pledge of loyalty, in the description of a 1:1 dinner Trump arranged. Trump and sons counter that he doesn’t ask for loyalty, but then this week Trump held his weird, unnatural, and televised cabinet meeting. Trump’s cabinet members tried to mimic North Korea’s “Dear Leader” in their attestation of fealty, appreciation, and devotion.
Trump denied Comey’s clearest example of possible obstruction of justice when Comey claimed that Trump had leaned on him to drop the Michael Flynn investigation. But, this week, filled with reporting about Trump’s possible plans to fire Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein, Trump tweeted about his displeasure with Rosenstein, an act that, in itself, may be another sign of obstruction in the form of witness intimidation. There are also reports that Trump asked for other Intelligence leaders to quash Comey’s work. So far, Dan Coats, Director of National Intelligence, Michael Rogers, National Security Agency Director, and Richard Ledgett , former NSA Deputy Director have not publicly testified about these interactions.
