We need to stop being surprised and outraged at what Trump does. We now know without any doubts that he is a narcissist, and a sociopath without impulse control or empathy. We know that he is a liar,a racist, and a misogynist. We know that he is a sexual predator and that he is an incompetent business man, whose success is based on corrupt practices. He is stubbornly ignorant, denying scientific evidence about the threat of climate change. Now we know that he is either an agent of influence for Russia or its unwitting idiot. We cannot blame a skunk for stinking. We need to disabuse ourselves of the illusion that it is fair or reasonable to give Trump a chance to ameliorate wage stagnation. He has named Andrew Puzder his Labor Secretary. Neither Trump nor he have ever shown the slightest interest in helping workers. In light of his naming Steve Mnuchin, we have no reason to believe Trump's promises to tame Wall Street and the Big Banks so that Main Street and small businesses could flourish. Trump's choice of Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary means that he intends to break his promise of school choice by actively working to destroy public schools. Trump has chosen neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson, to make good on his promise to rebuild the inner city. Unfortunately, Dr. Carson's only experience in housing rests on the very nice houses that he owns. His pre-programmed failure as Secretary of HUD that residents of the inner-city will learn just what it is that they have to lose. To make America safe again, Trump has selected Roy Tillerson, CEO of Exxon-Mobil and Vladimir Putin's best-friend-forever as Secretary of State. His selection seems more likely to keep Putin's reckless aggression safe for Russia than to maintain security for the US and the rest of the world. The only promise Trump is keeping is his promise to contaminate the air we breathe and the water we drink as he is in lock step with his nominee for Secretary of the Environmental Protection Agency, Scott Pruitt. But alas, this will not result in jobs for US workers - only more profits for owners of the dirty extractive industries like the Koch brothers. Let's be honest and admit it if we don't know what to do next. But, we must not lie to ourselves and pretend that we are not facing disaster. After we admit that we don't know what to do then we can develop a plan and take action. |
